Following the release of the COVID-19 Return to Work Safely Protocol, businesses are returning to the workplace, implementing the stricter hygiene procedures and social distancing measures required to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
One measure for consideration in all aspects of our lives is the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) whether as a requirement in the workplace, on public transport or as we venture back into the supermarkets and the wider community.
For businesses, the guidelines state that the precautionary use of extra PPE should not be encouraged, except in clinical settings or when responding to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.
However, if a risk assessment does show that PPE is required, this must be provided to workers who need it, free of charge and must fit properly.
The wearing of face coverings is recommended in all areas where maintaining social distancing is not possible, including shops, retail outlets and public transport, while remaining optional in other aspects of our lives. However, if an employee chooses to wear a face covering they should be supported to do so safely.
