Oxfam Make Recycling Business Mobiles Easy

Thanks to Oxfam’s recycling programme there is absolutely no need for old business mobiles to go to waste.

Through their recycling programme the charity ensures the mobiles are kept away from landfill by repairing, recycling or reconditioning the phones. And all donations aid the fight against poverty.

As a business with a strong social conscience and environmental awareness, Glasdon UK Limited sister company to Glasdon International Limited recently benefited from the free scheme by donating 43 Blackberry and Nokia mobiles.

Glasdon UK Limited IT Assistant, Lucy Ibbotson explains:

“Following an upgrade we really wanted a simple eco-friendly solution for the disposal of the old phones.

“The appeal for us was that Oxfam repair, recycle or recondition the phones and every single donation contributes in some way towards their work.”

Working phones are given a new lease of life and are sold abroad, some in developing countries helping boost communication in areas where land lines don’t exist.

All money raised through the sale of the phones goes back into buying vital kit such as water tanks, wells, tools, seeds and school books for adults, children and families.

Broken phones are passed on to Oxfam’s specialist recycling partners to be stripped down into their different component parts for re-use in the industry. This helps the environment by eliminating the resulting toxic chemicals and plastics from landfill sites.

Lucy added:

“And the recycling programme is easy for any business to fulfil as you can just take the phones along to your nearest Oxfam shop. We dropped ours off at the shop in Poulton-le-Fylde.”

Through the programme Oxfam also recycle tablets and ipods too.
